Career Development
I had the unfortunate timing of CM 564 - Career Development & Counseling being the first class I took via telecommunication during the pandemic. The circumstances and difficulty adjusting to the new learning environment proved an obstacle to my education in this area. I learned theoretical perspectives on career counseling such as Super’s theory of career development and Holland’s theory of career choice as well as the on-line resources for career searches, but I feel like I did not get enough hand on practical application for which to apply these. I recognize the importance career counseling for a person’s career affects the direction in a person’s life and impacts all other aspects of their social-emotional well being. This is an area I need to develop further skills. The artifact attached below is a paper I wrote on my own career path. It details my former career in the non-profit industry prior to my education in the counseling field. It is similar to the About Me section of the website; why I decided to become a counselor, twists in career paths leading to graduate school, and ultimately how I developed in my fledgling career as a counselor so far.

In the class Clinical Mental Heath Counseling, I learned more about the history of the counseling profession. As the final class project, a partner and I created our own community mental health center. The artifact attached below is a proposal for a new mental health center. My partner and I organized the logistics of employment, space, and payroll, as well as developed a program area and related counseling services offered. Completing the project gave me insight for all the details needed to run a community mental health program.
